Stefani LaFrenierre, MD

Medical Director

A passionate advocate for integrative and equitable care, Dr. LaFrenierre continues to shape the future of neuromodulation through education, mentorship, and innovation in TMS delivery models.
Dr. Stefani LaFrenierre is a double board-certified psychiatrist and addiction medicine physician with national recognition for her expertise in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and the business of modern mental health. She earned her medical degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and completed her adult psychiatry residency at San Mateo Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, where she served as Chief Resident and received consecutive Resident Awards for Excellence. She also completed a fellowship through the Harvard Program in Refugee Trauma, earning certification in Global Mental Health, Trauma, and Recovery.

As the founder and Chief Medical Officer of Resiliency Mind+Body Medicine, Dr. LaFrenierre leads one of California’s most innovative interventional psychiatry practices, offering Deep TMS, Spravato, ketamine, hormone and metabolic optimization, and mind-body medicine. Her clinic is recognized for achieving among the highest remission rates in treatment-resistant depression and for pioneering clinical applications of Deep TMS in PTSD and OCD.

Dr. LaFrenierre’s career reflects a rare blend of clinical innovation and business leadership. She has served as medical director across multiple behavioral health programs, led multidisciplinary provider teams, and designed scalable operational frameworks to expand access to physician-led psychiatric care. Her work integrates neuroscience, business acumen, and compassionate care, helping physicians deliver evidence-based neuromodulation while building financially sustainable practices.

At Solstice Training Institute, Dr. LaFrenierre brings this dual expertise to train the next generation of TMS providers. Her approach combines deep clinical knowledge with practical systems design, equipping psychiatrists and advanced practice providers to master TMS protocols, optimize clinical outcomes, and navigate the operational realities of modern interventional psychiatry.

Ben Spielberg, M.S., PhD Candidate

Founder & CEO

Ben Spielberg earned a Master of Science in Neuroscience from Columbia University, where he specialized in clinical neuromodulation. During graduate training, Ben focused on the use of brain-based biomarkers to inform and personalize off-label applications of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), neurofeedback, and ketamine. He is currently a PhD Candidate in Cognitive Neuroscience at Maastricht University, where he continues to research methods to further personalize and optimize brain stimulation and medical psychedelic treatments.

In 2018, Ben founded a highly regarded, multi-location psychiatric practice with a strong focus on TMS and interventional care. He oversaw the clinical, operational, and strategic development of the organization—from protocol design and provider training to compliance, scaling, and payer relationships—prior to the company’s successful acquisition by a national mental health organization.

Through the process of starting, scaling, and exiting a multi-location TMS practice, Ben identified critical gaps in how TMS is taught and implemented in real clinical environments. Much of the existing training is fragmented, overly theoretical, and insufficient for producing truly competent providers. Practical guidance on patient selection, protocol execution, staff training within active clinics, and quality assurance is often lacking, and little attention is paid to how TMS programs are actually managed at scale. Most notably, there is minimal education around operational infrastructure—data, dashboards, workflows, and performance metrics—necessary to run high-quality, sustainable TMS programs.

Ben founded Solstice Training Institute to close these gaps. Solstice was built to translate neuroscience and evidence-based practice into clear, practical systems—equipping clinicians, technicians, and clinic leaders with the tools, frameworks, and operational insight needed to deliver TMS safely, effectively, and at scale.

Our Instructors

  • Russ Toll, PhD

Russ gained his expertise in TMS, EEG, and MRI at Stanford, where he earned his PhD in Bioengineering. He has performed hundreds of TMS sessions with more than a decade of experience in neuromodulation, neuroimaging, and clinical trials research.

  • Dr. Tarique Perera, MD

Dr. Perera trained at Harvard Medical School and completed his residency at the New York Psychiatric Institute and Columbia University. He is the founding president of the international Clinical TMS society and first author of “TMS Guidelines” published by the society in 2016.

  • Dr Carolina Bonilla Jacome, MD

Dr. Bonilla received her medical degree from Pontifical Xavierian University and has been in practice for more than 20 years. Her areas of expertise include treatment-resistant depression, late-life depression, grief, and OCD.
